A GIF face swap is effectively a short sequence of photo edits plus tracking, timing, and compression decisions.
Start with a short segment where the face remains readable. Remove frames with unnecessary cuts, extreme blur, or a subject too small for stable detection.
Confirm that the target remains the same person when another face enters the frame. Review mask edges around hair, hands, glasses, and fast movement.
Inspect the actual exported GIF, not only the editor preview. Check palette banding, file size, playback speed, skipped frames, and the transition from the last frame back to the first.
GIF-specific constraints
GIF is designed for lightweight animation, not photorealistic color. Its limitations can reveal artifacts that are less visible in a still PNG or video file.
Traditional GIF frames use a restricted palette. Skin gradients, shadows, and subtle color matching may show banding or abrupt transitions after export.
The final and first frames sit next to each other during playback. A pose or expression mismatch can create a visible jump even when the middle frames look stable.
More frames, larger dimensions, and finer detail increase file size. Optimization may remove frames or colors, so quality must be checked after compression.
